1947 Tucker ‘48 Ad: The Surprise Car of the Year

This 1947 newspaper ad was one of the earliest promotions for the Tucker '48.  It highlights the earliest planned features of the automobile.

This Sunday, you can see Tucker 1044 at the Americana  Concours d'Elegance in Manhasset. Members of the Tucker family are planning to attend. Stop by and say hello!

The car drawings were done by designer Alex Tremulis. He did a few of them in February, 1947 that were used in advertising, business cards, press releases, etc. It was the first public images for the newly-renamed “Tucker ‘48” design. If you look closely, you can see they just reversed the image for the 50:50 balance inset (it never was right hand drive). Here’s another of his variations, also used in advertising:

I remember as a kid seeing a funny looking car with a middle head light. I know there weren’t that many Tuckers produced, and I had to be around 7 or 8 years old at the time of that sighting. I was born back in 1947. I still own a Burgundy, 1966 Pontiac GTO.
