The 1965 Mustang Assembly Plant, Martha & the Vandellas and Murray the K

Keith Schadoff has forwarded this amazing 1965 film of Martha and the Vandellas singing their classic "Nowhere to Run" at the Mustang assembly line in the Ford River Rouge Plant in Detroit.

This performance was the opening act for a two-hour television special Murray the K- It's What's Happening, Baby which aired on June 28, 1965.

In addition to Martha and the Vandellas,  the special featured performances by many of the popular artists of the day like Jan & Dean, Mary Wells, the Dave Clark Five, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Supremes, Tom Jones, Bill Cosby, Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles, The Drifters, The Miracles, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, The Ronettes, Chuck Jackson, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Righteous Brothers and Little Anthony & the Imperials.

The special was interspersed with Murray the K's public announcements urging the youth of America to pursue education and summer employment (due to the show being co-produced by the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity).

Look quickly, that's DJ Murray the K in his classic hat and sweater,  running at the opening of the film.
